Free carbon measure for businesses

The leading carbon monitoring website from University of Oxford's Centre for the Environment www.SMEasure.org.uk has revealed its new look website after completing its BETA testing.

The website invites businesses to input data which is then researched to inform governmental energy policy as well as investment and programmes to reduce energy use and carbon emissions.

Cutting-edge building analysis techniques are incorporated and the tool provides businesses with clear insights for how to save energy, reduce carbon emissions and cut bills.

Dr Russell Layberry, senior researcher and project manager, said: “The research team have been collecting data and writing models based around energy useage for some 15 years.

“However, the new look and simplified site is the first step to gaining larger volumes of data to assist with our research by attracting new businesses. In return, it enables the visitor to register and then to enter their meter readings regularly in order to ultimately save on energy and save on their carbon footprint.”

"The new look has been designed appeal to a wider audience, rather than the previously largely research and academic profile and has an easier-to-follow interface designed to attract more visitors which in turn, enables further research by the Institute," added Annah Todman, marketing manager.

SMEasure.org.uk is the only carbon and energy monitoring website that directly contributes to a universities research group in such a way.

The Energy Research Group require accurate data to be used for modelling building energy use from which it is possible to design stronger policy and initiatives in the future.

SMEasure.org.uk connects the needs of business with that of the energy research community to inform how the UK can transition successfully to a low carbon society.
