Ashden Awards seeking entries for 2015 competition

The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy is seeking entries from ground-breaking businesses, schools, not-for-profit initiatives, and public sector organisations that encourage the use of sustainable energy in the UK.

For the 2015 awards, organisers are particularly interested in applicants from any sector that are effectively changing hearts, minds and behaviour to reduce CO2 emissions either in their own organisation, other enterprises, or across a community.

They are also looking for organisations that are helping build capacity in the sustainable energy sector in the UK. This could include vocational courses, higher education and other training that equips people to deliver sustainable energy technology in the UK.

New for 2015, will also be making a Sustainable Travel award in addition to the UK Awards.

Each year the Ashden Awards reward ground-breaking sustainable energy initiatives, sharing the hard-won success of winners and gaining them wider recognition. The solution may be simple – but if it’s inspiring, practical and innovative, the awards' panel want to hear about it.

In addition to individual prizes of up to £10,000, with an overall UK Gold Award of £20,000, the event organisers are offering winners a package of benefits and support including a broadcast-quality short film about their winning work, tailored business support, introductions to influential policy makers and, in certain cases, funders.

The awards will be presented at a VIP ceremony in London in May 2015.

Applications must be for work that has been running for at least a year, is technically excellent and is improving the lives of local people.

Grand Designs presenter, Kevin McCloud, who presented the awards in 2017, commented: “The Ashden Awards are vital because they bring to light such unusual, brilliant and undersung projects that deserve to be better recognised. The winners are all marked by ingenuity and originality.”

The deadline for entries is October 25, 2017.
