Dr Caroline Jackson joins Environmental Protection UK

Environmental Protection UK, the national membership-based charity supported by pollution control professionals, has elected Dr Caroline Jackson as its new President, with James Grugeon joining as the charity's new Chief Executive.

Former MEP Dr Jackson brings extensive experience of environmental issues at both national and European level to the charity. She chaired the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Consumer Protection committee from 1999-2004.

As rapporteur for the influential committee she steered key EU environmental legislation through Parliament including the Landfill Directive of 1999 and the Waste Framework Directive of 2008. She is currently Chair of the Institute for European Environmental Policy's (IEEP) Board of Trustees.

James Grugeon joins Environmental Protection UK from his own business, The Low Carbon Enterprise, working with local authorities, NGOs, Government and businesses to deliver local community based projects that tackle climate change.

He has over 16 years' experience as a business leader and advocate which includes leading on government affairs and corporate and social responsibility for a FTSE 100 high street bank and advising government on fuel poverty and environment as Director of Corporate Affairs for Eaga, the UK's largest energy efficiency provider.

More recently, as UK Managing Director of Cool nrg, part of an international climate change business, he worked with policy makers and regulators in the UK and Australia to secure backing for large- scale environmental projects and, as a member of the company's Board, advised on environment and sustainability policy across the EU.

I am looking forward to working with our Trustees, our members, our team and our new President – who brings a wealth of experience – to build on our achievements to date and take the organisation forward as the recognised leader on environmental protection in the UK and wider EU."
