Protesters outside Miliband's offices

Police have arrested seven protestors who glued themselves to Ed Miliband’s London offices in protest at the closure of the Vestas wind turbine plant on the Isle of Wight.

The protestors were arrested under Section 69 by the Metropolitan Police and have been charged with aggravated trespass.

At around 8.30 this morning the protestors formed a chain across the entrance to Ed Miliband’s offices in London, forcing workers to enter around the back of the building.

Campaign group Workers’ Climate Action claims the protestors were forcibly removed by paramedics before they were taken to Belgravia Police Station.

Miliband is currently in Brazil delivering a speech on climate change and deforestation of the Amazon.

Sophie Lewis, a spokeswoman for the Workers’ Climate Action group, said. “The DECC asked us why we were doing it when he wasn’t in the country. Our response was that he should be in the country.”

Vestas will apply to the High Court tomorrow for permission to evict the workers who remain in the factory in protest about the closure of the plant and loss of 600 jobs.

Ian Terry, one of the workers who was sacked last week for his part in the plant, maintains the protests are for a worthy cause.

“The amount of public support across the country shows people believe in what we are doing. We know people are campaigning on the outside for us and it’s a big boost to the people in here to hear about it,” he stated.

Terry also explained that Workers’ Climate Action has discussed hiring a red carpet for the workers when they are finally removed from the plant, although he admits they will probably be "bundled out the back" to avoid any publicity.

Meanwhile, a protest has been organised outside the Bristol offices of the Environment Agency tomorrow to coincide with the court case to determine the fate of the workers still inside the factory.
